A 13-metre boat has been found on a Sunshine Coast beach, with reportedly only a dog onboard, sparking an air and sea search on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the vessel about 4.30pm after reports the vessel had run aground in waters off Caloundra, near the northern tip of Bribie Island.

Police were working to determine who was on board and how to track them down.

Surf Life Saving Queensland said lifeguards at a nearby beach noticed the boat about 30 minutes earlier and went to investigate.

The motor had been left running after two crew members abandoned the ship, with only the dog left onboard, Nine reported.

A police spokesman said officers on the scene were trying to determine who had been on board and how to track them down.
