Race 2 CLASS 3 HCP (1100m)
Back to the sprint trip, and it’s a tricky affair in this going. Coffs 6YO gelding 5. Ballybrack has never raced better, dashing home to win two of his last three at this track up to 1400m, and looks well in at the weights. First time anywhere near this rated surface, but group 2-winning sire won a metro race by 10 lengths on a heavy 10.
Dangers: Tamworth 4YO 1. Anubis is five weeks between runs for his first start at this track. Sat behind the speed before scoring narrowly at Quirindi and gets a little weight relief. 6 Kensington Kid is hard fit and also well treated at the weights after 1.5kg claim.
How to play it: Ballybrack to win and quinella 1 and 5; Odds and Evens: Odds
Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1300m)
Modest battle with plenty of chances. Improving 3YO Scone filly 7. Gold Lunar rises sharply in trip second-up but significantly down in weight after the claim with winkers going on. Following a similar pattern to last prep when she resumed over 1000m before stepping up quickly in distance and holding her own in a much tougher maiden. Untried in heavy ground but bred to relish it by noted wet-tracker Olympic Glory out of a mare by Canny Lad, who won the 1990 Golden Slipper on a heavy 10.
Dangers: Coffs 4YO 1. Praerefox is looking for this slightly longer journey after working home OK in two runs back from a spell. Coffs 3YO filly 11. Time To Target fought on well after leading at only her second start. Faces a tougher draw here but most of the opposition haven’t shown much to date. Include in exotics 4YO mare 5. Tariff Trump who has shown solid improvement this prep and can peak now from an economical draw.
How to play it: Gold Lunar each way and trifecta 1,7,11/1,5,7,11/1,5,7,11; Odds and Evens: Odds a special
Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1400m)
Very tough maiden. Amid several chances, keen on Grafton mare 5. Queens Do Dream who has attacked the line late in her last two around this distance. First time on heavy but has superior soft track form to her opposition.
Dangers: Consistent local 4YO 3. Scatman has finished well to beat all bar the winner in three of his last four. Drawn to find a good position just off the speed. First outing in heavy ground but only has to handle it to again be in the finish. Home track mare 6. Shelled let down impressively against the pattern from well back here on a very firm surface. Should be at peak fitness, although has failed badly in two previous attempts in the wet. Scone 4YO 1. Barellan Bandit has worked home OK in two runs to start the career and should appreciate a little more ground from the inside draw. 7. Clogs boasts early speed and comes back in trip, but clear risk on this rating.
How to play it: Queens Do Dream each way and box exacta 3,5,6; Odds and Evens: Split
Race 5 MAIDEN HCP (1100m)
Another wide open sprint tailor-made for exotic players. Tamworth 4YO 5. Rockdog has shown steady improvement over a long and drawn-out prep and returns off a little freshen-up as a gelding. Bred to handle the going and trainer has made significant gear changes.
Dangers: Capable 4YO 2. Flying Euros resumes with no public trial but can come to hand quickly in a suitable race, although will need the early breaks drawn right off the track. Watch the betting on ex-Victorian 3YO 6. The Gossiper having his first run for new Tamworth stable. Tamworth 3YO 7. Unitary can improve at his second start from a better draw.
How to play it: Rockdog each way and box trifecta 2,5,6,7; Odds and Evans: Split
Race 6 CLASS 2 HCP (1400m)
Competitive heat of the Rising Star. Got plenty of time for progressive Muswellbrook 4YO 4. Forbidden Palace who is hard fit and one of the better weighted runners all day after the claim. Won two straight in spring powering home from a mile back before outclassed in a Highway, and solid through the line in a deeper race at Scone. Bred to handle the wet and can be ridden more effectively back in the field with early cover from a low draw.
Dangers: Wyong filly 5 Bedazzle swept home for an easy BM 58 win before working home strong in a deeper C2 at Scone. Carries the same weight here and is effective in these conditions. Keep safe 5YO 1. Boom Gate who has been mixing his form and distances. Cessnock mare 6. If You Think So clung on to win her maiden here last start, and Coffs 6YO 3. Guest can charge home late.
How to play it: Forbidden Palace each way and quinella 4 and 5; Odds and Evens: Split
Race 7 BM 58 HCP (1100m)
We wrap it over a sprint trip, and Muswellbrook mare 4. Alchera only needs to get near her Highway run at Randwick, where she covered plenty of ground, to be the one to beat. Had previously rattled home to win a similar race at Quirindi, although has failed in only two runs in heavy ground.
Dangers: Scone 6YO 5. More Than A Samba is a consister sprinter around this grade and drawn to get a lovely spot behind the speed. Coffs mare 1. Shirazzle resumes off a long break on ground she normally likes and has trialled smartly.
How to play it: Alchera to win and box exacta 1,4,5; Odds and Evens: Split
Race 1: (5) INTERCEPT
Race 7: (4) ALCHERA
Race 6: (4) FORBIDDEN PALACE
