Washington: Americans could start receiving coronavirus vaccine shots in three days after federal regulators officially granted an emergency use authorisation for Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine.
The much-anticipated approval from the Food and Drug Administration comes as the US continues to set daily records for COVID-19 deaths and hospitalisations, with over 3000 people now dying each day from the virus.
The US is rapidly approaching a total of 300,000 coronavirus deaths.
The New York Times, citing three sources, reported on Saturday (AEDT) that the FDA had approved the vaccine.
Alex Azar, the head of the Department of Health and Human Services, said on Saturday (AEDT): “We could be seeing people getting vaccinated Monday, Tuesday of next week.”
