In just a four-day period, 140,000 coronavirus test results came in from across NSW, more than one-third of them from Sydney’s northern beaches.

Lines stretched hundreds of metres at some testing clinics where people waited hours to be tested as NSW recorded more daily tests than ever before this week.

From Friday, December 18 to Monday, December 21, the latest data available shows there were 140,762 tests carried out across the state.

There were 41,865 tests reported to 8pm on Tuesday night, compared to the previous day’s record of 44,466.
