The annual Cock Of the Bay race in Port Phillip Bay has finished with Extasea claiming line honours on Saturday.

The Cookson 50 yacht led a record fleet of 112 boats, carrying 618 crew, on the shortened course of 22 nautical miles from Port Melbourne to Blairgowrie in a time of four hours and two minutes.

The race distance is usually 34 nautical miles.

Extasea took line honours ahead of Carrera S, which led the fleet across the start line off Port Melbourne in the morning.

However, with most of the fleet still on the water at 4pm, it was too early to call handicap winners in the various divisions.

And there’ll be little time to pause and reflect for 22 of the yachts which are due to participate in the Rudder Cup Race from Portsea to the northern Tasmanian city of Devonport on Sunday morning.
