A Brisbane cat used up one of its nine lives after being swept down a stormwater drain and into the Brisbane River during a recent storm.

Bandit the cat’s narrow escape after it latched on to a construction barge, and subsequent rescue by council contractors, was shared on social media by Brisbane councillor Ryan Murphy.

Bandit the cat was rescued from the Brisbane River by eagle-eyed contractors working on the Indooroopilly Riverwalk.

Bandit managed to latch on to the barge, which was being used for construction of the Indooroopilly Riverwalk, in the fast-moving water, Cr Murphy wrote.

“In a one-in-a-million chance, one of the project contractors spotted Bandit as he drove across the Walter Taylor Bridge,” Cr Murphy posted on Facebook on Tuesday night.
