Police are offering a $1 million reward for information about the murder of a woman found floating in a Hunter dam 26 years ago.

Melissa Hunt, then aged 22, was found near the weir wall of Burrenjim Dam in Stockrington, 24 kilometres west of Newcastle, on Anzac Day, 1994.

A post-mortem examination revealed Mrs Hunt died from severe head injuries before she was thrown into the water with rocks in her clothing.

Homicide detectives formed Strike Force Impey to investigate her death but no arrests have been made.
